Scope: Medicare uses the standard individual 2026–27 low-income rules and does not model family thresholds, seniors/pensioner thresholds, exemptions or Medicare levy surcharge. HELP/STSL assumes the annualised gross amount equals repayment income; actual repayment income can include other amounts and the compulsory repayment is also capped by remaining repayable debt. Deductions, offsets and other personal adjustments are not modelled.

Medicare levy

2026–27 standard individual threshold

No standard Medicare levy is calculated at taxable income of $28,011 or less. Between $28,011 and the $35,013 phase-in limit, this tool applies the statutory low-income phase-in calculation. Above that range it applies the standard 2% levy.

This is deliberately narrower than the full Medicare rules because family, senior/pensioner and exemption circumstances need additional personal information.

Official rule sources

Built from current government thresholds

The Medicare low-income amounts are taken from the Medicare Levy Act settings applying for 2026–27. HELP thresholds are indexed annually; the 2026–27 minimum repayment income is $69,528 and the replacement indexable amount is $129,717.

Quick answers

Take-home pay FAQs

Does this include Medicare levy?

Yes when the Medicare option is selected. It uses the standard individual low-income threshold and phase-in rules, but not family, senior/pensioner, exemption or surcharge rules.

Does it calculate HELP or HECS repayments?

Yes when HELP/STSL is selected. For this simplified estimate, annualised gross pay is treated as repayment income. Your actual repayment income can differ.

Does this predict my exact payslip?

No. It is an annual estimate converted into common pay cycles. Payroll withholding, deductions, offsets and other individual tax circumstances can change the amount withheld or ultimately payable.
